Through the use of a variety of exhibits, education and art classes, the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (AGSM) encourages and supports visual arts in Brandon and the surrounding areas.
ExhibitionS
The AGSM uses two galleries to hold its exhibitions: the Main Gallery and the Community Gallery. The curator selects local, provincial and national artists' work to be displayed in the Main Gallery while the Community Gallery is used to display the works of local and emerging artists. See the AGSM's website for more information on their current Exhibits.
Education Program
The AGSM's school program is coordinated with the gallery's exhibition program and incorporates the Manitoba Curriculum including drama, geography, health, language arts, math, physical education, principles of art making and social history. AGSM staff consults with teachers, make classroom visits, and give gallery tours to help students understand both the materials artists use as well as our surrounding area. For more information, see the AGSM's website.
Art Classes
The AGSM has multiple classrooms and instructors to teach classes in ceramics, drawing, digital media, painting, photography and printmaking. They offer four seasonal terms per year and a variety of classes each term to choose from. Costs vary depending on duration and type of class as well as whether you are a member of the AGSM. However, children and teen classes include the cost of materials in their tuition costs!
See their website for more information on the current classes or visit our calender.
